Constructivism 

• Individuals who are more Cognitive Complexity in their perceptions of others have the mental capacity to construct Sophisticated Message plans that pursue multiple goals. They then have the ability to deliver Person-Centered Messages that achieve the outcomes they desire.
• The main hypothesis of this theory is that People who are Cognitive Complexity in their perceptions of others have a communication advantage over those with less-developed mental structures. These individuals have the ability to produce sophisticated messages that have the best chance to achieve their communication goals.

Person-Centered Messages

• However, the cognitively complex people, while able, do not always produce person-centered messages (fatigue, pressure to conform or other situational factors may intervene).

Constructs

• Contrasting features we have available to classify other people (warm, cool).
• People with large set of interpersonal constructs have better social perceptions skills, than those whose set of mental templates is relatively small.
